What is Backup?
Backup takes a copy of your important files – usually at a fixed interval, say every day. You can recover your files to their state at the time of backup.
Insures against: Storage failure and accidental deletion or modification of files.
Advantages: Fast (especially when backing-up to disk), it can be done during periods of low usage.
Disadvantages: Not real-time, only as up-to-date as last backup.

PresSTORE Backup supports multiple drives and multiple clients simultaneously. This enables the backup of large volumes of data in the shortest possible time, regardless of the number of servers the data comes from. Parallel data streaming enables PresSTORE to read data from several sources and write it to several drives, all at the same time. With sufficient hardware resources users can backup, restore and archive data simultaneously. Just as important as short backup times is the ability to quickly restore data. By means of a data index, users can select files and folders to be restored. Employing block-direct positioning allows PresStore to restore your data in the shortest possible time, since no sequential seeking takes place on the medium.
High Reliability
PresSTORE's primary task is to maintain maximum data availability. Henceforth, PresSTORE incorporates many functions to prevent, correct and alleviate possible tape or driver errors, i.e. keeping track of all the tape errors which occurred during its life cycle. Data can be cloned to a second tape to overcome possible failure of the primary tape. The configuration database and the data indexes are continuously stored to tape to ensure a simple and quick reconstruction in a disaster scenario.
Cross-Platform Support
Regardless which file server, hardware, platform or operating system you employ, PresSTORE transfers data between them in a neutral format and maintains platform-specific information such as the special characters in file names, attributes and file parts (forks and/or streams). This enables users to backup and restore data to any platform within your company's network and allows the business to remain flexible in the choice of platform in the future.
Modular & Scalable
PresSTORE's modular design allows users to optimise a company's data security requirements as the storage needs of a business grows. PresSTORE does not impose any internal limits on this growth. This enables users to, for example, multiply the data throughput of backup by adding further drives or to backup additional servers on their network in parallel on demand. With PresSTORE's flexible modular system, PresSTORE Archive and Synchronise modules can be added as required.
