HELIOS Base is the innovative foundation used by all HELIOS UB products. It incorporates the advanced server technologies developed by HELIOS over many years. These core HELIOS technologies include service controller, printing system, authentication server, remote administration, networking and imaging libraries, tools and more. HELIOS Base provides the foundation for all HELIOS products.

Ease of Use The conception and design of HELIOS Base allows great flexibility and ease of use. This starts with the software installation, using the new HELIOS software and update installers. The software installer even installs available software updates automatically. The HELIOS products location and configuration allows customers to switch between all supported UNIX platforms within minutes by preserving all custom settings of the HELIOS server solutions.

Server Fail Safety HELIOS software is a crucial component in mission-critical environments. HELIOS Base adds an additional level of server fail safety. The central HELIOS Service Controller starts, stops and monitors all HELIOS services. Separate processes per active user are generated, to enforce file security and ensure process safety. A failure of any HELIOS service will be reported and if required, the HELIOS Service Controller will restart the service.

Advanced Printing System HELIOS Base provides the state-of-the-art HELIOS printing system to all other HELIOS products.

HELIOS Authentication server supports LDAP, AD/PDC, NIS and local users. Even mixed environments, e.g. LDAP, AD/PDC and backup servers are supported.

All Major Server Platforms are supported with identical features and release dates. HELIOS Base abstracts platform-specific server differences and offers an identical foundation for all HELIOS products independent of the server platform and operating system.
