PresSTORE celebrates 4.3

archiwareThis month we get a new PresSTORE release that adds a bunch of nice new features. Supported customers, as always, get the update free of charge.

Backup2Go gets the most attention in this release with support for Windows at the server end - allowing a Windows-only deployment. If you're workstation is backed-up on a Backup2Go server, you can now point a web-browser at it and download files from your workstation, even if you left it at home! Any computer with an internet connection will do.

HELIOS virtualises on Xen

virtualHELIOS UB2 adds Xen to the list of Virtual Machine server support options. Xen is an open-source virtualisation tool that is very popular in the Linux world.

HELIOS UB2 server solutions running within a VM are flexible, highly available, and easy to transfer, enabling server consolidation, energy savings, and isolation of services.

Helmut Tschemernjak, president of HELIOS Software, explains, "We see a clear trend that many server sites are looking into deployment of virtual servers. The new x86-64 based servers offer many times more performance compared to servers from a few years ago." He continues, "with the new Xen virtual server support, all major VM server solutions are supported by the HELIOS UB2 software".

The next step will be the release of 'Virtual Appliances', which will include Linux + HELIOS ready to run in a few minutes within your VM server. Watch this space.
