London, UK – May 19, 2011 – Archiware extends the functionality of its SMB backup system PresSTORE P4.2. It has many new features, including an automated fail-safe backup rotation, multi-selection restore and metadata import for the archive module.

Fail-safe backup rotation
Alternating BackupWhen performing on-site/off-site tape rotation, forgetting to swap the tapes can result in a missed backup, and risk data-loss. P4.2 provides an improved, more convenient workflow. Different tape pools can be specified within a single backup configuration, and PresSTORE will always write the tapes it finds available, taking care to maintain a full data-set on all sets of tapes. 

Restore selection
When restoring backup and archive data, it is now possible to select multiple files and directories within the index and restore everything in a single job. A list of the current selection remains visible until the selection is completed and then the restore can commence.

Metadata
If you’re archiving data with embedded metadata (XMP, IPTC, EXIF etc), life gets a lot easier. Through a simple script, PresSTORE Archive can ingest the metadata from the source files, and add it to the archive index thereby making it searchable. Location of offline-data from your archive becomes much more flexible as a result.

Other new features
To help with the PresSTORE’s administration, P4.2 includes many additional improvements including a more detailed job monitor, per-tape job logs, automated client software updates and using the tape barcode as volume name. Backup2Go receives network-specific backups which can check the network you’re connected to plus a handy disk-usage display.
