London, UK, October 31st 2011 – JPY plc announces UK release of HELIOS Software's latest server software suite, UB2. UB2 makes it easy for Mac, Windows and Web users to share files and collaborate - within their LAN or on the Web. JPY's solutions enable designers, publishers, printers, etc., to manage their image and document production processes end to end. UB2's new features, including remote proofing with threaded annotations and Apple Spotlight searches, will be of immediate value to our customers.

UB2 now fills a market gap left by Apple's XServe market withdrawal, transparently delivering full AFP Apple Server functionality on low cost/high performance PC or UNIX hardware, - from a single physical or virtual server, including VMware environments.

UB2's fast cross-platform indexing and search functionality supports Apple Spotlight and Windows Explorer searches, including file meta-data as well as text, object and PDF content. UB2 volume user lists provide access control. Together this enables users, clients, suppliers and agencies, to quickly, securely and manageably access content from any platform or device - to search, review, edit or approve for example.

Enhancements include support for Time Machine backups, extended attributes, and Mac Finder comments – also making Mac Finder comments available to Windows and Web users. Finally, TCP support for print jobs is provided using Bonjour technology with automatic PPD installation.

UB2 fully supports Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Lion, and no longer requires AppleTalk, important since Apple dropped AppleTalk in Snow Leopard. UB2 is fully TCP/IP based, and compatible with existing Mac OS versions in Intranet and Internet environments. All its features are manageable remotely.

The most technically demanding market for our software is the creative graphics, audio and video publishing, design and pre-press sectors, where file sizes may be very large and remote review and PDF tools mandatory. HELIOS built its reputation delivering high performance file serving to this market before before Apple, and now fills this gap again.

HELIOS broadened its applications to support PCs and the Web as customers adopted hybrid computing environments. As a result HELIOS is also popular with professional services businesses, where UB2 enables Apple desktop and Mobile device users to share content transparently with PC and Linux users across their businesses.
