Cumulus gets media organised for Toyota
Brandwidth is an integrated marketing agency that has been working for Toyota for three years. Initially Brandwidth used a very tidy filing system to keep track of the Toyota artwork, but as the workload grew, the system slowed.
The solution, supplied via JPY reseller RTL, was a customised Cumulus system, which Brandwidth implemented under the name Mediabox. Now sourcing images is faster, less labour intensive, and ultimately more profitable than ever. Read the full story here.
PresSTORE jacks up capacity
Archiware has announced new PresSTORE bundles that include additional capacity for the same price. The previous configurations of the Workgroup editions included 12 slot licenses, and the Professional Edition 24. Now the Workgroup Edition is licensed for 24 slots, and the Professional version is up to 48 slots.
The move recognises the increasing thirst for data storage, which meant some relatively small users were hitting the capacity of the Workgroup Editions. Archiware felt it was fairest to increase capacity for users in that situation.
See JPY's web site for full details about how PresSTORE is licensed.
JPY on TV
JPY has historically been involved in workflow and network design for the publishing and pre-press industries. However, the world of digital video production is now facing many of the challenges that the publishing industry has already overcome. With this in mind, JPY has decided to apply that knowledge to this market. So it has embarked on a strategy to build solutions for video workflow and video production houses.
Said JPY's Kevan Hamman,
"15 years ago, the needs of pre-press users were stretching the abilities of the available hardware and software. Now high-definition digital video is replicating that situation. JPY has 26 years of experience building high performance networks, and solving these sort of challenges. It makes perfect sense to apply these abilities to the most demanding networks today, namely professional digital video production houses."
Switch to 10 Gigabit with Arista and HELIOS
Specialist high performance network hardware manufacturer Arista Networks (previously known as Arastra) recently launched a range of super-fast 10 Gigabit Ethernet Switches. JPY will add the range to its product portfolio as the first piece of the new digital video strategy it is embarking on.
The monster switches offer 24 and 48 Ethernet ports, with low latency and incredible speed, ideal for handling large video files. Also, the Arista switches incorporate a fully extensible operating system that enables performance to be tweaked to exacting customer needs. Unlike mixed 1/10 Gigabit switches currently available, the Arista devices support a full 10 Gigabits on every port.
The Arista switch is the ideal companion for the HELIOS range of file and print servers distributed by JPY. HELIOS has long been used in environments where high-speed access, cross-platform client support, and solid reliability are essential. Nothing comes close to the combination of HELIOS on a 10 Gigabit network.
JPY founder and MD, Dr John Yardley commented,
"Although JPY is best known as a software value-added distributor, our customers cannot wait for 10 Gigabit to reach the mainstream channel distributors. Building networks for these extreme speeds requires expert knowledge in the media industries and JPY has plenty of that."

Canto updates Quark compatibility for Cumulus
Canto has announced updates to its Quark integration tools, used to support various Quark programs within Cumulus 7.6, its digital asset management suite. The software organises and shares numerous kinds of content, such as photos and "Office" documents. The latest versions of QXP Companion, QXP Server Companion and QPS Companion add support for QuarkXPress 8, QuarkXPress Server 8 and Quark Publishing System 7.6 or 8.
These updates let users drag material in and out of Cumulus catalogs, making it possible to find elements for use in QuarkXPress projects, and deconstruct the contents of projects that are already finished or in progress. QPS Companion lets users check in Quark files through Cumulus, and generate PDF files using Quark layouts. Buyers must contact Canto for prices.

Storage Expo 08
On 15-16 October, JPY supported Consolidate IT at this year's Storage Expo at Olympia. Consolidate IT are handling the European sales of the Arista Networks Ethernet Switches, and JPY will be their partner in the UK - specialising in the Apple connectivity and video workflow markets.
The Arista 24-port switches on display caused quite a stir. (Almost as much as the Teddy Bear hot water bottles that Consolidate were giving away on the stand.) Many visitors were blown away by the fact such a device even existed - offering a full 24 or 48 ports of 10 Mb connectivity.
It was great to see many of JPY's existing customers at the show. The show attendance was quite amazing given the current economic climate.
